Visual Ranking Tool

Using the Visual Ranking Tool in a K-2 school could be a challenge.  Having the students use their critical thinking skills to sort information will be a higher order thinking skill in itself!

Project Priorities

I wanted a project idea that would encourage creative writing, but develop some basic ELA skills. Writing - The Fun Way will ask students to complete several activities in order to assess their knowledge of author, illustrator, story elements, story sequencing, and creative writing. Students will complete graphic organizers for story elements and story sequencing, a "Top Ten" activity, a wordless picture book writing activity, and a cube game. Collaborative groups of students will culminate their project by creating a retelling video to present to their peers.

Module 2, Step 2

After using Verbinator I can clearly see a progression in my lesson toward higher order thinking skills. I think the challenge will be to see the steps through and let students progress at their own pace.

Module 1 Activity 3

I am the Librarian in a K-2 school. Let me tell you this is a whole different world then most academic settings! I try to use technology in every lesson. I am very lucky in that I have a promethean interactive whiteboard that the students love. I have a very relaxed environment, but I confess that it is probably 60% direct instruction. I try to model good thinking skills by talking out loud about my steps to the process at hand - such as "Well, I know that call numbers are how I find a book in the library so... If I know that the author of my book is David Shannon, then I know that SHA is the call number and I can find the book in the S section." We do alot of talking - I hope this leads to alot of learning.
